They’re two of the best that WWE has to offer, yet CM Punk & Daniel Bryan have both been embroiled in a love saga with AJ. Despite their best efforts to come across as the domineering man, it looks as if AJ is having the last laugh as their new boss. Whichever way you look at it, both Superstars have hurt AJ in some way, and now in her role as the RAW General Manager, she has the power to exact her revenge in any way she sees fit. We got the start of this on RAW last night, where AJ sent Daniel to a therapist for a psychiatric evaulation, and then at the end of the night where she put Punk in a Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship after he caused a double DQ in the number 1 contenders match between John Cena & Big Show. Even though it’s clear she’s getting revenge, we are still left asking what her main aim is…

I present to you a comparison I’ve been wanting to make for months- AJ Lee is the WWE equivalent to Revenge’s Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke. For those of you who don’t know who she is, the basic story is that her dad was framed for a crime he didn’t commit and Emily was sent into a mental institution. She returns to the Hamptons to get revenge on those who wronged her and her dad, and she doesn’t care who she hurts in the process. While her situation is not as bad, AJ does have a motive for revenge- Daniel constantly humiliated her and when she tried to seek solace in Punk, he refused. It’s not hard for AJ to hold a grudge, and she’ll be sure to seek justice against the men that have talked down at her. For purposes of the Revenge comparison, Punk & Bryan are the Conrad Grayson & Frank Stevens.
But what about those who play a more implicit role in AJ’s path of revenge? Kane could easily be the equivalent of Jack Porter, Emily’s childhood sweetheart in Revenge before she’s taken away. Kane didn’t exactly break AJ’s heart more than let her down gently, but judging from the Smackdown before her wedding, there is still something there. Also, he attacked Daniel Bryan- surely he still has feelings for AJ right?
Every Emily needs a quiet best friend that takes all the abuse hurled at her, and that’s the role Kaitlyn plays as the WWE’s version of Ashley Davenport. While initially unaware of her psychotic tendencies, Kaitlyn has become wise and kept a long distance away from AJ. This is what happens between Emily & Ashley in Revenge, with Ashley desperately trying to become a success on her own merits rather than on someone else’s.
If AJ does a meticulous plan of revenge set for her former boyfriends, she needs to ensure that it doesn’t backfire and cost her what she’s worked hard for- a dream career as a WWE Diva.
No trait is more justified than revenge in the right time and place. Meir Kahane
Let’s hope this rings true for AJ.
