Do you dig crazy chicks? They don't come crazier than the petite AJ Lee. A former FCW Grand Slam Divas Champion and WSU Tag Team Champion, AJ has made a huge impact in WWE, making her childhood dream of becoming an elite WWE Diva come true. As the current WWE Divas Champion, there is no end to the continual rise of AJ Lee.
Big E Langston vs Jack Swagger
AJ Lee & Dolph Ziggler accompany Big E Langston in his match with Jack Swagger. Alberto Del Rio is on commentary and before the match, Del Rio put a ladder in the middle of the ring. Big E & Swagger have a tug-of-war with the ladder, but Zeb distracts Langston enough for Swagger to take advantage. Alberto then cleans house and sits on top of the ladder to end the segment.
Backstage, Kaitlyn is walking backstage laughing at something on her phone. AJ shouts MAN ARMS and she asks if Kaitlyn is texting her mom (and says she misses Susan). Kaitlyn says she’s texting her admirer and AJ mockingly acts like she’s interested. AJ asks if Kaitlyn ever figured out which lost soul is slumming it lately and is sending Kaitlyn ugly hats. Kaitlyn says it could easily be Dolph (NXT REFERENCE PEOPLE!!!) because he may be scared of little spider monkeys and he is ready for a real woman. AJ responds by saying real women don’t bench press more than their men. Kaitlyn asked if a real woman is someone with soulless eyes and has a body of a 10 year old boy. Just as it looks like AJ is about to pounce on Kaitlyn, Natalya walks in and asks if there is a problem. AJ leaves and says “Later, gentlemen”. Watch the full segment below!
Jack Swagger (w/ Zeb Colter) vs. Big E Langston (w/ Dolph Ziggler, AJ Lee) ends up in an all out brawl. Alberto Del Rio was on commentary. Both Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler get involved, as well as ladders, and they all fight one another. Del Rio gets the last laugh when he is on top of the ladder posing with the World Heavyweight Championship.
Backstage, AJ makes fun of Kaitlyn for texting her secret admirer. Natalya and Khali interrupts AJ. Khali then puts on a Rey Mysterio mask and a fake mustache, and he hunts undercover to find out the admirer’s identity.
Alberto Del Rio def. World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler via Disqualification
It turns out Alberto Del Rio is every bit as flashy as Dolph Ziggler, but as Raw showed, when it comes to old-school brutality, Jack Swagger has them both beat. The onetime aristocrat unleashed an arsenal every bit as thrilling as The Showoff’s in their one-on-one bout, even giving the champ a run for his money before Swagger and Zeb Colter arrived at commentary and threw The Pride of Mexico off his game.
Ziggler took advantage of the distraction to even the odds, but still found himself in the Cross Armbreaker after a grueling, 20-minute battle. Big E Langston intervened to save The Showoff from the hold, but the would-be rescue inadvertently cost him the match. Swagger retaliated with prejudice, storming the ring and attacking both Superstars with a ladder in an ominous potential preview of their three-way bout at Extreme Rules. In other words, it may be a three-way dance for the World Title, but the “Real American” has no intention of being the forgotten man.
Divas Champion Kaitlyn & The Funkadactyls def. AJ Lee & The Bella Twins
Friends don’t let friends spear each other. Thankfully, Kaitlyn and AJ Lee are no longer friends, so the Divas Champion was free to knock heads and bust chicks when she felled Dolph Ziggler’s gal pal (and the No. 1 contender to her title) in a dynamic, Six-Diva Tag Match on Raw.
AJ had full control of the bout in the early going, (wo)manhandling Cameron with impunity until the Funkadactyl tagged in Kaitlyn. Sensing imminent defeat, AJ moved to summon the Bellas from her corner, but the shrewd sisters wanted no part of the “Hybrid Diva” and promptly amscrayed, leaving AJ to eat the aforementioned spear and suffer the ignominious three-count that followed.
In what seems like fate, AJ is set to go one-on-one with her former best friend, Kaitlyn, for the Divas Championship sometime in the future. We want to give the newer AJ fanbase an idea of the history between the two Divas, and why their pending championship match is a long time coming. Over the next 3 Sundays, we’re going to be giving you a plethora of flashbacks relating to AJ & Kaitlyn so you can see the rise & fall of their friendship. This week, we are focusing on The NXT Days, where our story starts…
Once upon a time, in a land male dominated, Michael Cole & Josh Matthews announced that season 3 of NXT (a show where “rookies” are paired with WWE Superstars, and the winner of the series wins a WWE contract) was going to be an all-Diva edition. AJ Lee was named as a rookie alongside Naomi, Maxine, Aksana, Jamie Keyes & a woman Aloisia. Before the series started, it was announced that Aloisia had been removed from the competition, and her pro, Vickie Guerrero had chosen a new rookie for the series. In comes an awkward woman who couldn’t decide what colour she wanted her hair so she decided to have both- Kaitlyn. Watch the full episode 1 with Kaitlyn’s introductions below!
It was obvious from the fact they were both equally awkward in their own way that Kaitlyn & AJ would bond, and boy did they. Throughout the series, AJ became the friend Kaitlyn needed to help combat her issues with her pro. Even when they were in competition, they were able to show just how close they became by having the ability to joke with each other in challenges.
As the season began to wind down, we ended up with a top three featuring AJ, Kaitlyn & Naomi. When it came to the penultimate elimination, both AJ & Kaitlyn made it clear that they wanted to be in the finale together, yet Naomi stuck to her guns and believed Kaitlyn should be eliminated. That is what made this elimination more shocking (unless you were as observant as me at the time- someone was missing from Primo’s corner when he taped his Superstars match the night before this NXT episode).
AJ cried. Kaitlyn cried. Even Naomi shed a tear as AJ was eliminated from NXT one week before the finale. What the pros were told to do by WWE because the series was fixed thinking at the time is questionable- AJ had won a lot of matches in the weeks leading to her elimination, but one thing that AJ said stood out- “This isn’t the last time you’re going to see me”. One week later, Kaitlyn won the series of NXT, and AJ was the first to run to the ring to celebrate with her new found best friend.
Some may say that this friendship would be dangerous to them both at this time- they’re both rookies who needed to find a way to stand out once NXT ended. In next week’s edition of our Kaitlyn vs AJ Retrospective, we’re going to look at how their friendship continued to blossom as they became fully fledged Divas.
